After completing the initial setup on OneKey Pro 2, you can choose how to verify certain mnemonic backup-related operations in the future. OneKey Pro 2 allows you to enable PIN verification as a quicker verification method for supported backup operations.
Please note that PIN quick verification is designed to make backup-related operations more convenient. It does not replace the mnemonic backup itself. Whether or not this feature is enabled, you should always properly record and securely store your mnemonic backup.
When Quick Backup is enabled (Verify by PIN)
After OneKey Pro 2 has been set up, you can choose whether to enable PIN verification as a quick verification method for future mnemonic backup-related operations.
Once enabled, when performing supported backup-related operations on OneKey Pro 2, you only need to enter the current OneKey Pro 2 hardware wallet PIN to complete verification. You do not need to enter the full mnemonic again.
This verification method can be used in the following backup-related scenarios:
Using a mnemonic metal backup tool, such as OneKey KeyTag, for mnemonic dot map backup-related operations;
Using a new OneKey SeedCard to back up this device;
Using OneKey Lite to back up this device.
In other words, after PIN quick verification is enabled, these backup-related operations can be verified using the PIN of the OneKey hardware wallet.
When Quick Backup is disabled (Verify by Recovery Phrase)
If you do not enable PIN quick verification, the device will continue to use a verification method similar to the previous generation of OneKey hardware wallets.
For example, on OneKey Pro, when performing OneKey Lite or other mnemonic backup-related operations, you need to enter the full mnemonic to enable the relevant backup feature.
Verify by Recovery Phrases:
Refer to 00:11 to 00:20 of the video below.
Therefore, OneKey Pro 2 provides two verification approaches:
PIN verification enabled: verify using the current OneKey hardware wallet PIN;
PIN verification not enabled: verify by entering the full mnemonic.
Important security reminder
Enabling PIN quick backup verification is only intended to simplify the verification process when performing backup operations. It does not mean you can stop properly recording and storing your mnemonic backup.
The hardware wallet PIN is only used for the current device. If the hardware wallet is damaged, lost, or no longer works properly, the PIN cannot replace the mnemonic as a way to recover your wallet.
Therefore, even if you enable PIN quick verification, you should still follow standard security backup practices and properly record and store your mnemonic backup, such as keeping your mnemonic recovery sheet in a safe place.
If you choose to enable PIN quick verification, avoid using overly simple PINs, such as 1234 or other easily guessed combinations.
Summary
The PIN quick verification mechanism on OneKey Pro 2 is designed to improve the convenience of mnemonic backup-related operations. Once enabled, certain backup-related operations can be verified using the current device’s hardware wallet PIN. If it is not enabled, verification requires entering the full mnemonic.
Always remember: PIN quick verification improves operational convenience, but it cannot replace your mnemonic backup. Whether or not this feature is enabled, you must properly record and securely store your mnemonic backup.
