What is recovery phrases and private key

A recovery phrase is another representation of a plaintext private key and is a list of words that store all the information needed to recover a cryptocurrency wallet. It is an important component of cryptocurrency security and can be seen as the "master key" to the wallet. It was first proposed by the Bitcoin community's BIP39 proposal, aimed at helping users remember and backup complex private keys. Mnemonic phrases typically consist of 12, 15, 18, 21, or 24 words, which are generated from a predetermined list of 2048 words.

How to view and backup recovery phrases

The "Backup Recovery Phrase" and "Export Private Key" features are only applicable to software wallet accounts created within the OneKey App. For security reasons, the recovery phrases of OneKey hardware wallets cannot be viewed and exported after the initial setup.

Backup recovery phrases
  • Open the browser plugin and click on the wallet avatar in the top left corner to enter the wallet list.
  • Select a wallet from the wallet list and choose "Backup".
  • Choose your preferred backup method; here, select "Manual Backup".
  • After verifying your password, your recovery phrases will be displayed. Write down the recovery phrases and please do not make any digital copies.

View Private key

  • Open the browser plugin and click on the address name in the top right corner to enter the address list.
  • Select a wallet from the wallet list and choose "Edit".
  • Choose "Export Private Key."
  • After verifying your password, your private key will be displayed.
