Security of using Touch ID in the Mac version of the OneKey App

When you enable Touch ID on the Mac version of the OneKey App desktop client, you can unlock the OneKey App with your fingerprint. This easy unlocking method will facilitate the use of the OneKey App desktop client in a variety of scenarios.

Your fingerprint is not stored in the OneKey App

OneKey App desktop never scans or stores your fingerprint. Touch ID is provided by iOS, and it only informs Desktop whether your fingerprint has been recognized. Learn more about the advanced security technology of Touch ID.

Your OneKey App still protects your data

Using Touch ID in the OneKey App does not replace your account password. You can disable the fingerprint recognition feature at any time to ensure that the account password is required to access the client.

Hardware wallet accounts still need to connect to the hardware wallet to interact

The hardware wallet addresses used in the OneKey App are generated by unlocking and connecting directly to the hardware wallet. The mnemonic phrases of the hardware wallet are stored in a Secure Element chip, interacting with the outside world using a public key. The Secure Element is impenetrable, and the mnemonic phrases do not go online. When interacting using a hardware wallet address, the computer still needs to connect to the hardware wallet and perform physical confirmation to complete the process. Enabling Touch ID does not compromise the security of the hardware wallet.

Precautions for using Touch ID

The benefits of using Touch ID far outweigh the risks. Follow these tips to use Touch ID securely:

  • Remember your account password. If you frequently use Touch ID, you may find it easier to forget your account password since you do not type it often.
  • Do not share your Mac device password. If you enable Touch ID in the Mac version desktop client, be sure to protect your Mac device password. Anyone who knows it can register a new fingerprint, and all registered fingerprints on the device can be used to unlock the OneKey App.
  • If you are concerned that someone might attempt to use your fingerprint without your consent, disable Touch ID.
