What is a Mnemonic Phrase?

The mnemonic is another manifestation of the plaintext private key, which was first proposed by BIP39 to help users remember and transcribe complex private keys.

These words are taken from a fixed lexicon, and their generation order is also according to a certain algorithm, so users do not need to worry about entering 12 random words to generate an address.

Anyone who gets your mnemonic can take away your assets without much effort. Therefore, after backing up your mnemonics, you must pay attention to the following three points:

  • Use physical media as much as possible, such as pen on paper, and do not take screenshots or photos and put them on a networked device to prevent hackers from stealing them.
  • Verify the correctness of the backed-up mnemonics several times; if you make a mistake in one or two words, it will be very difficult to retrieve the correct mnemonics.
  • Please keep your backups properly, and it is recommended to make multiple copies to prevent theft and loss.
