What is a Watch-Only Wallet?

Updated this week

A Watch-Only Wallet refers to a read-only wallet. It does not store private keys, so it cannot initiate transfers or sign transactions. It is only used to view the assets, transaction history, and balance of a blockchain address.

This concept comes from one of blockchain’s most important features: a transparent and decentralized ledger.

All transaction records are stored on the blockchain and can be accessed by anyone.
Each transaction (who sent to whom, how much, and when) is permanently recorded in blocks and maintained collectively by network nodes.

Every wallet on the blockchain has a Public Address, which is like a bank account number,
and a Private Key, which is like a password.

Anyone who knows the address can view all transaction records associated with that account;
but only the person with the private key can actually move the funds.

Therefore:

  • Knowing the address → you can check the balance and transaction history.

  • Having the private key → you can send and sign transactions.

How to Import a Watch-Only Wallet Address in OneKey App

  1. Open the OneKey App, and tap “Create or import wallet.”

  2. Tap “Import wallet.”

  3. Under “Watch only”, tap “Address,” then select the correct mainnet and enter the wallet address.
